Like the proverbial cat with nine lives , Olaleye Saidi, a member of the Oyo state People’s Democratic Party { PDP} came back to life after about 30 minutes in coma. He was believed to have died when an assailant split his head with a cutlass. His clothes and parts of his body were soaked with blood at the time he was rushed to the popular Baptist Hospital, Ogbomoso for urgent medical attention.

The incident happened during the conferment of chieftaincy titles on Oyo State governor, Otunba Christopher Alao-Akala and his wife, Oluwakemi
Though, in politics , Saidi never saw himself as a politician . He was in politics due to unemployment and inability to make ends meet. Although, he has left the hospital ,but the impact of the sharp cutlass may have left a permanent scar on him as he often complain of occasional loss of memory since the unfortunate incident occured.

Many people who saw him , never believed he would still live to tell the story. The cut was so deep that some white substances believed to be brain tissue were visible . Doctors at the Baptist Hospital , it was learnt had a tough time stitching the battered part of his head.

Narrating his ordeal , Saidi said he had just took his seat at the well attended chieftaincy ceremony when a faction of the People’s Democratic Party { PDP} in Ibadan North Local Government led by the Chairman of the council, Hon. Demola Omotoso suddenly opposed the presence of a faction of the party said to be loyalists of the Personal Assistant to the late Ibadan politician, Chief Lamidi Adedibu, Alhaji Hazeem Gbolarumi . Both Gbolarumi and Omotoso had been at logger-heads over the council’s administration .

“ Some kept cursing our leader , Gbolarumi and were saying we should leave the canopy provided for us .They all wore Ankara uniform , known as aso ebi . When our people now sensed that they were armed with dangerous weapons, and becoming more violent, we started to move back . “ What we now noticed was cutlasses, knives , charms and other dangerous weapons which means that they were fully prepared for a bloody encounter with us right from Ibadan. While our people tried to resist any attempt to over power us and injure our men, one of them suddenly rushed to me with a short but sharp cutlass and hit me on the head , that was all I could remember until I woke up after about 30 minutes in the hospital”, he said .

Saidi, however, thanked God for sparing his life , and canvassed the need for peace, so that progress and development would have a place in Ibadan North local government and the state in general . He similarly called on well meaning individuals in the state to prevail on the warring factions to toe the path of peace by bringing all the aggrieved parties in the local government together .
Saidi, in company of other party loyalists of Alhaji Hazeem Gbolarumi , a close aid of the late strongman of Ibadan politics , Chief Lamidi Adedibu were in Ogbomoso where the state governor, Otunba Christopher Adebayo Alao-Akala and his wife , Oluwakemi were being conferred with the titles of Bobagunwa and Yeye Bobagunwa of Ogbomosoland last Friday when two factions of the PDP in Ibadan North Local Government clashed . In the free- for- all , several people were injured.
The state governor, Otunba Christopher Adebayo Alao-Akala who said that the clash was not the business of the government , described the feud between the two leaders in the Ibadan North Local Government as “ a trivial matter ‘’
The Special Adviser on Public Communication to Governor Akala , Prince Dotun Oyelade who spoke on behalf of the governor on Thursday in a statement said “ Such trivial issue is not the business of the government. The administration of Akala has serious challenges of service delivery to grapple with rather than dissipate energy on an issue that has no bearing with the betterment of our people”
Among the five people who sustained serious injuries in the fracas is the
