Lagos Alerts Public On Existence Of Fake Brand Of Paracetamol

The Lagos state government has alerted members of the public on the existence of a fake brand of paracetamol syrup in the Nigerian market, which is capable of causing kidney failure and death in children.

The Lagos state government has alerted members of the public on the existence of a fake brand of paracetamol syrup in the Nigerian market, which is capable of causing kidney failure and death in children.

A statement issued today, in Lagos, by the State Commissioner for Health, Dr Jide Idris, noted that the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has been notified and is currently investigating with a view to clarifying the situation further.

Idris therefore implored members of the public to avoid the use of any brand of paracetamol syrup pending further confirmatory information to the contrary from NAFDAC, just as he advised all health institutions; public and private, to be on the alert and increase their vigilance on cases brought to their hospitals, of children who might present with signs of kidney failure.

The Commissioner also urged members of the public to similarly report any case of such to the Lagos State Ministry of Health or the nearest health facility.
