75-Year-Old Grandmother And Son Arraigned For False Information

A 75-year-old grandmother, Mrs. Felicia Agbe, and her human rights activist son, Akinbode Agbe, have been arraigned before an Igbosere magistrate’s court, over allegations of trying to mislead the police with false information.

A 75-year-old grandmother, Mrs. Felicia Agbe, and her human rights activist son, Akinbode Agbe, have been arraigned before an Igbosere magistrate’s court, over allegations of trying to mislead the police with false information.

Mrs. Agbe’s arrest and subsequent arraignment was sequel to a complaint by her human rights activist son, Akinbode, to the police that his sister, Mrs. Daramola Olayinka, had connived with some persons to fraudulently sell their mother’s house, located in Surulere.

Mr. Akinbode is the National President of Civil Rights Liberty Organization (CRLO) and hosts a popular program “owuro lawa” on Lagos television LTV.

The charge against Akinbode and his mother alleged that they had, on 5 June, 2008, at the Anti-Fraud section of the Zonal C.I.D, Onikan, made a false statement to the police that one Olayinka Daramola stole the title document of their family house, located at Taju Thompson Drive, Obele –Oniwala, Surulere, Lagos.

When the charge was read out to them, they both pleaded not guilty to the allegation and were granted bail by the court in the sum of N100, 000, with two sureties. A mild drama, however, ensued after the court proceeding, as Mrs. Felicia rained curses on her daughter, Mrs Olayinka, whom she said is the cause of her woes.

Her daughter, however, reiterated that it was wrong for her mother to have sold her house and turn around to accuse other people of trying to defraud her. She added that a higher court had already decided on the ownership of the house by giving judgment in favour of Mrs. Temitayo Karunwi, who bought the property over from her mother. The matter has been adjourned till 27 January, for hearing.
