Lagos Opens Camp Today For Sports Festival

Lagos state athletes commenced an open camp today, ahead of the National Sports Festival, scheduled to hold in Kaduna, next month.

Lagos state athletes commenced an open camp today, ahead of the National Sports Festival, scheduled to hold in Kaduna, next month.

All the athletes who represented the state in the zonal elimination of the sports festival held in Owo, Ondo state, last year, were ordered to hit camp with other new athletes. The camp will be opened at the Rowe Park, Yaba and Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere, Lagos.

Secretary of Lagos State Hockey Association, Mrs Abimbola Omole, told PM Sports that the camping is necessary so that the coaches will have the opportunity to select good athletes ahead of the fiesta. She stressed that the open camp will be used to discover young talents who are hungry for glory.

She disclosed that the camp is open to every athlete who is confident to make the state’s final list. “Lagos is ready to begin an open camp ahead of the sports festival and whosoever qualifies from the screening exercise will represent the state at the festival. We are expecting all interested athletes to report to camp on Monday (today).

Commenting on Lagos state’s chances in the festival, Omole promised that they will give the hosts, Kaduna, and other states, a run for their money, adding that Lagos will perform better than she did in the last edition of the festival held in Ogun state, in 2006.

“We have good athletes who are good to make Lagos proud in the sports festival. We are not afraid of any state. We are going to the festival to claim our rightful position.”
