An illegal street trader selling sweets and other items under the flyover along Mobolaji Bank Anthony Way, beside LASUTH, Ikeja, has had six of his teeth removed by an unidentified official of the Kick Against Indiscipline (KAI), for flouting the state government’s directive on street trading.

The six teeth flew out of the mouth of the trader, identified as a mallam, when the KAI official punched him for resisting arrest. P.M.News gathered that the Hausa trader had displayed sweets and chewing gums on a tray under the bridge when the KAI official accosted him and asked if he did not know that there was a ban on street trading.

“Since the hawker could not understand English, all he could mutter was sorry. An attempt by the KAI official to confiscate his wares was resisted by the mallam and this resulted in fighting, during which the KAI official punched him in the mouth,” a witness, who identified himself as Sunday, narrated.

“The hawker, obviously in pains, held his mouth for a few minutes. When he eventually stood up, he had six of his teeth in his palm and blood was trickling down his chin,” Sunday added.

This infuriated passersby who came to the rescue of the trader and attempted to attack the KAI official, but he ran into the premises of the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, Ikeja. He was chased and caught but was saved by policemen who pleaded with his pursuers to allow them take him to their station at the Area ‘F’ Police Command.
