Ila-Orangun, a usually serene town in Osun state, last Friday, witnessed a large influx of Nigerians from all walks of life, as it hosted the 70th birthday party of one of its illustrious sons, Chief Adebisi Akande.

As early as 8 a.m., politicians and other well-wishers had started trooping into the town to witness the grand reception to round off the activities marking the 70th birthday of the National Chairman of the Action Congress.

Some top politicians, who are close associates of the former Osun state governor, were said to have arrived the previous day to ensure that everything went smoothly. Igbonnibi Hall, in the ancient town, was jampacked during the open political forum titled: Federalism and Restructuring: Whither Way?

The event was held in the morning and politicians swarmed the hall in chartered buses from across the country. The train of well-wishers later moved from the hall to the town’s Central Mosque, about 100 metres away, to render special jumat prayers for the celebrant.

At the mosque, which was said to have been built for the community in 2007, notable political big wigs, like Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Alhaji Rauf Aregbesola and Alhaji Tajudeen Olusi among others, were seen praying.

The grand reception was held at the open field opposite Chief Akande’s sprawling country home, with the governor of Osun state, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola, and his wife, in attendance, sharing the high table with the celebrant and his wife. Aremo Olusegun Osoba and Otunba Niyi Adebayo were also on the high table.

Also in the executive tent were Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, Pa Ayo Fasanmi, Mr. Dele Alake, Mr. Tunji Bello, Mrs. Joke Orelope-Adefulire, Mr. Sesan Olanrewaju, Otunba Oladele Ajomale, Dr. Leke Pitan, Mrs. Remi Tinubu, Alhaji Rauf Aregbesola and Dr. Kayode Fayemi.

Others are: Cardinal James Odunmbaku, Hon. Wale Oshun, Comrade Yinka Odumakin, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, Commissioners, Special Advisers and local government chairmen from Lagos state, as well as other political leaders and members of the Action Congress. On the band stand was King Wasiu Ayinde Marshal (K1).

Some of the residents of the town, who spoke with P.M.News, confessed that they had never witnessed such a crowd in the town in their life- time, hoping that such special occasions would be an annual event.
